Arise 2014

August 24, 2014 By FreioMusic Leave a Comment

The 2nd Annual Arise Music Festival:

By the time the gates were finally open, the energy began to pick up.  With the people came art, laughter, color and flavor.  As the camping area began to fill up it was clear that this year was much larger than last.  The same beautiful location shared by thousands of new attendees.  With ‘dualing stages’, two stages set up right next to each other intended to minimize musical downtime, the music continued and the crowd stayed close.  The electronic stage, Souls Rising, had a stacked lineup of talented young and established acts.  The energy by Souls Rising stage kept a steady group of dancing bass faces content.  While the Souls Rising stage was considerably smaller than the other two main musical stages, it was the destination for many festival goers and it delivered.  The stage and surrounding area was decorated ornately from the lasers beaming around the ground to the CDs hanging reflectively from the trees.

This year’s attendance appeared to be at least double, possibly triple, the previous year’s attendance.  The festival was prepared and there was ample water, food, and portable toilets.   The vender village was one of a kind with an array of smells coming from the food stands, and an array of colors coming from the vender stands.  Artists are now migrating to Arise festival from all over the USA, contributing to its colorful diversity.  Arise is Colorado’s best and most diverse music festival.

Once again SunRise Ranch played the role of the gracious host and one can only hope that they received the support and recognition they deserve for sharing the incredible valley to all of us who attend.  With out the support of SunRise Ranch this event would not be possible in its current form.  The artists also deserve a huge shoutout for making the experience what it was, and sharing ideas, thoughts, and emotions through their sound and visions. Equally the fan, the festival goer, the music lover, the ‘escape the 9-5 artist’, anyone who attended a festival, deserves a huge thank you.  With out listeners how could music work?  It is you who make this possible and for that all of us here at FreioMusic, Thank You!

ARISE FESTIVAL 2013

“The music is like the fire …. and we all gather around it to warm our souls”

~ Paul Bassis, Producer of ARISE ~

full_60434

A new festival has emerged onto the Colorado scene this summer. Backdropped by the serene beauty of the Rocky Mountains, Arise Festival has set its sights on being the very essence of a festival –  co-creation, music, art, yoga, and community. Sunrise Ranch, an hour north of Denver, will provide the magical space for festival goers to explore and re-connect with nature and one another. The atmosphere is looking to come together seamlessly, complete with Hemp Village, Kids Village, Organic Food and Beverage Village, and hey, my fellow beer lovers, a Craft Beer and Wine Village!

The festival will also feature a selection of independent films including – Bidder 70, Chasing Water, Arise, and The Bloom. If that doesn’t expand your mind enough – check out the healing space, Temple of the Heart, on site. It will encompass activities like yoga, kirtan, meditation, and a healers tent to completely rejuvinate you- mind, body, and soul.

Wanderlust Wednesday Presents ROCKTIN GROVE

October 10, 2012 By Sober_Raver Leave a Comment

Boulder based and CU buffed band, Rocktin Grove, is jamming its way through the Colorado music scene. With an original sound that seamlessly blends together a wide variety of genres, Rocktin Grove has a little get-down for everyone. From funked out bluegrass twang to hot latin soul, their sound is something uniquely robust and not to be missed. The seven member group, with two years of jam-tastic rocking under their belts, has incredible ‘get-yo-feet-movin” potential to break from their Front Range Colorado stage to a national one. Fans of the band describe the sound as “funky bluegrass awesomeness” and as an interpretation of music they have all always loved transformed into something new and original. The band says, “Calling Boulder, Colorado our home, the mountains, beautiful blue sky, and deep powder keep us loving life and loving music.” Amen.

Meet the boys:

Jon Kimbell- Mandolin/Vocals
Will Viitanen- Percussion
Wilson Harwood- Electric Guitar/Banjo/Vocals/Tres – with “get the cougars goin'” and “gangsta banjo” talent
Adrian Flynt- Bass/Vocals
Nate Luebbe- Mandolin/Violin/Vocals
Garrett Cropsey- Alto Saxophone/Vocals
Theo Farver- Acoustic Guitar/Harmonica/Percussion/Vocals/Trumpet

Looking for latin groovin’? Check out Ice Cream Cha Cha

We Like Monsters

August 6, 2012 By Michael Leave a Comment

We Like Monsters:  Denver, Colorado.

I was lucky to have the opportunity to see We Like Monsters live at Moe’s BBQ in Denver during the Underground Music Showcase, a festival.  These fellas are an indie band with a real unique sound & feel.  The lead singer, Tim, is a standout band orchestrator with a a drum stick sticking out of his back pocket as he sings. Previously, Tim was in a band called GreenField where he sang, said Adam, the former bassist in greenfield.  When he is not singing, he either plays the keyboard or triggers samples and sounds with his midi pad, as the rest of the band takes center stage. The other band members pick up the slack with their superb musicality and feel.  The bassist, has a rocker’s stance, and beanie to match it. The lead keyboardist has a double stack, or two keyboards on top of each other, each with their own customized synth sounds to enable versatile timbres for melodies.  If you like the music, don’t miss an opportunity to see We Like Monsters in a personable venue (before they become well known)!  Have a listen and be sure to listen to the music video: “Le Tigre” (see below)

The True Set

August 5, 2012 By Michael Leave a Comment

The True Set from Los Angeles

Freio Music is excited to present ‘The True Set’, inspired by Cold War Kids, Led Zeppelin, and Rumspringa. Their first instruments were played as kids in the kitchen, pots and pans! Creative from the beginning of their career, they use, adapt and thrive with the instruments available.  This crew is ingenuitive and surprisingly good.  Have a listen!  In three words they describe their sound as, “Pure Genuine Rock” – Will age 24.  This young band has the potential to grow and change their sound as they get their hands on new instruments and tools. Fly High, a must listen to song if you like overdrive vocals and indie rock.

Surfing SoundWaves

Two Fresh Tracks from Surfing SoundWaves

Scott Brown, AKA Surfing SoundWaves, returns to FreioMusic. The 22 year old Denver native illuminates your mind with his smooth and tasty style of music. The bass hits heavy and the leads ride smooth like Orangatang wheels. Here are two tracks from Surfing SoundWave’s upcoming EP “Guerilla Warfare” (due to drop late this fall) for free download! Each jam has it’s own distinct journey and feel. The Cozza Frenzy Remix bangs hard, making use of heavy leads and phat sub-bass. “Guerilla Warfare” (the title track) is a deep, ominous ride through the unknown. This young producer really shows promise as he continues to improve and explore his sound. The big stages are calling for Surfing SoundWaves!

Human Nature – Tribal Spectrum

Tribal Spectrum

*Sam (left)  Greg (right) {See Picture Above}

“How do you describe your sound? It is the hardest thing in the world to do.”  – Sam “I don’t want to follow other’s sound, and create that kind of music” Sam said [referring to the main-stage aka house music] “as long as we do something other people are not”.   They are staying true to their name and embracing cultures left and right.  Greg shapes the sound with his tight rhythm on the drums and his ‘bangers’ for the nightlife sub-loving ladies from the bay area while Sam stretches their comfort zone into foreign lands such as India, Ireland, and Nepal to name a few.

Listen to how Greg rips up the acoustic drums during their live digital set.  The last 5 minutes exemplify Greg’s superb drumming. Tribal Spectrum (live 6.12.2012) *Download –> Right Click & Save As

Manolis Moumouzias

May 28, 2012 By Michael Leave a Comment

Manolis Moumouzias: from Greece

This artist takes the one man band approach, creating layers and harmonies with himself in his home studio.
His talent is clear though collaboration often elvates a sound where one man falls short.  That said, this music by Manolis Moumouzias is impressive and has the potential to captivate an audience.  With dedication to the creative process, Manolis creates his unique interpretation of sound with the motto “just because  a part was recorded, doesn’t mean it needs to be in the mix”.. His cover, Stuck like glue, is his most popular video on youtube.

WANDERLUST WEDNESDAY- Introducing Fox and Woman…

May 23, 2012 By Sober_Raver Leave a Comment

One of the favorite local venues of Eugene, Oregon, Sam Bond’s Garage, was already set in my mind as the place to get down last Friday night. The now Portland-based Water Tower Bucket Boys made their way down I-5 to shake up the town, but there was a little something extra thrown into the bluegrass party. The opener of the night, Fox and Woman, filled the room with a smooth and sultry sound of impeccably blended harmonies. The provoking band name came from a song written by vocalist, Jess Silva, while washing dishes in a San Francisco cafe. She noted the back room provided the, “prime time to space out and write music.” Jess and violinist, keyboardist, vocalist, and co-worker, Emily Haltom, found a creative energy together playing outside bars on the streets of San Fran. After some pretty wild band names and varying members, Emily and Jess added Leo Suarez(cello), Will Boast(drums), and Andrew Paul Nelson (mandolin, guitar ukulele) finally solidifying the band that is known as Fox and Woman. Their music harbors a full bodied melding of rich instrumentation and vocals that soothes the listener into the depths of something that is beautifully captivating. Emily describes their sound as, “electro-alternative folk”.  With the use of peddles for the electric guitar atop acoustic rhythms, their sound is only beginning to transcend genres beyond their indie-folk roots. From playing outside of bars in San Francisco to inside them in Eugene and throughout the Northwest, this band is definitely going great places. Their individual raw talent fuses gracefully together as one unbelievable band. Their live show is not to be missed.
