World’s Finest
The Domino Room-February 17th, 2017
Last Friday at the Domino Room in downtown Bend, Oregon, we were able to catch Leftover Salmon’s opener, World’s Finest. Featuring an electric banjo, saxophone, and vintage guitar, they had a rustic and organic vibe. Blending elements of ska, bluegrass and reggae, they were able to touch on several familiar sounds while adding their own character and a bit of a twist.
Juggling genres and different styles, it was obvious the group drew inspiration from assorted backgrounds. There were many moments of feel-good-bluegrass easily associated with Portland and The Pacific Northwest. Both upbeat and rock influenced it reminded me of groups like Fruition. Other times they would tone things down and switch over to reggae and ska. Some highlights included “Rub-a-dub” reggae and well timed breakdowns to group acapellas. With flexible musicianship, they were able to showcase a few covers as well. My favorite was their funky-bluegrass cover of “Pick Up the Pieces” by Average White Band. The nostalgia of the song, accompanied with their provocative saxophone, was a great way to close out the set.
Full of fun energy and a feel good vibe, World’s Finest had very personable crowd interaction and seemed to thoroughly enjoy their time on the stage.

A rocking band traveling the West-coast & Mid-west USA.
He’s my Brother She’s my Sister, aka HMBSMS, is a band with flare, touch, tap, and style. A unique approach to music and crowd participation. In fact they invited some of the wildest and bravest crowd members to sing with them on stage. HMBSMS has a very heavy tour schedule, and is constantly on the move. After seeing He is my brother she is my sister in Eugene, Oregon, I had to talk with them. The band members were kind enough to agree to a phone interview (click here). The night was clear, the flow of beer, and the music was here at Sam Bond’s Garage. The sibling vocal harmonies were noticeable in the incredibly cohesive sound despite the Rob having the flue, and sweating profusely during the entire show. The percussionist Lauren, standing on a kick drum tap-dancing, danced with enthusiasm and a purpose. Rachel’s beautiful vocals and occasional tambourine shakes kept the flare alive. With walking bass lines and sliding lap-steal guitar, the sound was keyed in. HMBSMS opened up the microphone up to other members of the audience, who gratefully grabbed the mic to scat and howl the night away. With a taste of Eugene, this band wanted a little more, entertaining an encore to the fans delight. To read more about the show & hear from three members of the band in an interview found only hear on FreioMusic
With an extremely heavy tour schedule, the band will likely be within a couple hours away (if you are in the USA) from your home town. Check out their tour schedule here:

The True Set
The True Set from Los Angeles
Freio Music is excited to present ‘The True Set’, inspired by Cold War Kids, Led Zeppelin, and Rumspringa. Their first instruments were played as kids in the kitchen, pots and pans! Creative from the beginning of their career, they use, adapt and thrive with the instruments available. This crew is ingenuitive and surprisingly good. Have a listen! In three words they describe their sound as, “Pure Genuine Rock” – Will age 24. This young band has the potential to grow and change their sound as they get their hands on new instruments and tools. Fly High, a must listen to song if you like overdrive vocals and indie rock.

Ash Graham
Ash Graham from New Zealand!
U heard it first HEAR @freioMusic
Ash is a singer songwriter from the Kapiti Coast of New Zealand. He started playing guitar at 6 and songwriting at 11. Singing followed a few years later. Ash’s voice sounds far more mature than the look of his face. Ash is 17 years old and already making leaps towards his dream of exploring the world through his music. His voice resembles Jason Mraz, Jackie Greene, Ben Harper, and John Butler. This rising star has already been found by the local TV station (see youtube links below)
Although he has received some exposure in New Zealand, Ash has little international presence. Thanks to the Internet, we can find amazing artists like Ash. Ash is in a band called ‘The Avenue Eve’ and seems to be stirring up a fan base as we speak. We, at FreioMusic, are very excited to feature Ash Graham because we know he is just getting started. Keep up the great work Ash! Stay tuned for more…
Ash was 3rd in the Play It Strange National Secondary Schools songwriting competition with his song Routine. It also reached the semi finals in the Teen section of the International Songwriting Competition.

Young Hamm Remix Champion
How to be a Hip Hop Hit!
Gucci Gucci ft Yung Hamm-Mr RaW-Still RaW
Young Hamm = Hip-HoP Hit from the West!
Young Hamm, with some help from Mr. RaW, laid it down smooth with some weezy inspired vocals, sick verses, slick choruses and a swag to match. Their approach, leave the instrumental as is, and follow the structure of the original song. Every chorus is slightly different, which shows an attention to detail, and development throughout the song. The lyrics are energized, driven, and of course creative.
“Lyrically a new drug like crack and Novocain. When I drop you know I came a meateater, but steezer, a beat eater. I merk the track, I guess for me its easier” -Mr. RaW. “Crush’n on Kreayshawn!” -Young Hamm
From a mixing/mastering standpoint, the vocals were nicely placed in the front of the mix with a subtle but helpful reverb + echo. How to be a Hip Hop Hit! To all the musically inspired youth readers out there, take note~ Listen to Young Hamm’s new album. My favorite track: #8 Feel Me

“4ESH! started when myself (Alejandro Diaz “DT0X”) and my long time high school friend (Javier Lopez “Avilo”) decided to collab and create music. I started when I was 17 and now we are 23 and 25. We love creating all genres of electronic music but prefer electro house. We have too many influences both in our genre and outside said genre to name. We have a nice following here in Miami but want to expand our horizon.”

“I started writing music at the age of 13 and recorded my first song on my 14th birthday. I remember that day like it was just yesterday, I rapped over Nas, Lil Wayne, and Cassidy instrumentals. Since a young age i had always loved music and had that feeling that not only could i create music, but i could be good if not great at it. If i had to make a Top 5 MC list it would be 2pac,Nas,Andre 3000,Lauryn Hill and Common, No specific order. These are the MC’s who inspired me the most, but i studied so many more if not everyone before me. I love what the young/new up and coming artist are doing for the game (J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar, K.R.I.T.,Curren$y, Wale) and i think that its up to US to bring it back to what people grew to love. With my music i try to be unique and not just chase after the next hit song. I push hard to make music that I want to make first, then make sure it is something real and easy to relate to. I love to make people think and broaden their imagination while listening to my music, rather it be just a lyric that might go over your head or a whole song concept that makes you want to dig deeper. My main goals with my music are just to be heard and make a person feel emotions while listening, even angry. If i know i can make a person upset and piss them off with my music, then i know its possible to make them smile, then laugh, cry then ultimately go out and search for their biological parents or something. The last but first thing that i do it for is my city, DENVER. There is so much unheard talent out here it kills me to listen to ‘local’ artist. I have always said i dont care if im the first through the door, the last, or the most famous. I will be satisfied knowing that i played a role in opening the door for this ‘Denver Renaissance Movement’. I know everyone cant be the star, If im not a Martin Luther King, what’s wrong with being W.E.B. DuBois?

“I’ve been producing music for about six years, four of which were while studying Music Technology at the University of Oregon. I grew up listening to groups like the Chemical Brothers, Basement Jaxx, Fatboy Slim, and Mr. Oizo, but since school I have found a deep appreciation for people like Stockhausen, Cage, and Applebaum. I mix in all of that together with my trumpet, and that makes Clodewerks.”

I asked Ashelyn what inspires her. She replied, “I am classically trained vocally, and much of my songwriting is inspired by composers such as Nobuo Uematsu and Sergei Rachmaninov. I like to incorporate classical techniques into my songs, and I seek to always use real instruments, as a digital counterpart can never fully recreate the nuanced timbre of a live cello, piano, etc. I believe there is great beauty in the complexity of classical compositions, and I hope to one day be able to emulate them more completely.” Well said! *Ashelyn, you are going somewhere!
