Resolution- Jan 28th, 2012

March 30, 2012 By FreioMusic Leave a Comment

Resolution Portland, Oregon, USA

Upon reflection, this show has been a highlight of 2012 thus far.  With much more to come, who can sit still? Here is some of the music that has permitted the West Coast vibrations and will continue for yeas to come!

Phuture Primitive!

Horizon Events threw a massave rager in a warehouse in Portland.  Actually let me rephrase that.  A collective effort was put forth to create a ridiculous event with a killer light show.  A spectacular display of lights, lasers, and video to the eyes with lighting by Dreamer, visuals by Light Trope, and space shaping by Renaissnce Raven, the ave was scheduled from 9:00PM to 6:00AM.  9 hours of head pounding, sternum wrenching bassy electronic music coupled with incredible visuals, i think all were sweaty and satisfied as the sun was rising.

“RESOLUTION! The show was sold out!!!!!!! 500+ heads in the building make for a special night! Big ups to RE SOUND for the KV2 sweetness, all the vendors, the AMAZING DJ TALENT, THE AMAZING SECURITY TEAM, MICHEAL BOWLES and his crew for the dopest stage setup I have ever seen, JOSH FITZ for equally impressive video design, DREAMER with the DOPEST LASER SHOW IN THE NW” -Zilch

A special thanks to Tribal Spectrum, Michael Bowls (Renaissance Raven), Stapelton, Alden Rodgers and Horizon Events!

Night Wave

Night Wave

Freio brings you some deep-south dub! Coming at you from Ft. Worth, Texas, here is Night Wave. In the hard-hitting world that is dubstep, Eric Sauber is a heavy weight favorite. As the production mastermind behind Night Wave, Eric Sauber is one of the heaviest, filthiest, dub-face-makin’ music producers to reach my ears. The haunting combination of incredibly crisp, samples into deep, dark lows is simply one of a kind. Take some time, let the beat soak into your skin. This is some dubstep that you simlpy cannot afford to miss. For booking or any other inquiries, hit Eric up at ericjsauber@gmail.com, and of course, become a fan by visiting the links at the bottom. Big ups to Night Wave, mad respect for the work you put into your music. Onward!

Euforquestra

February 12, 2012 By Sober_Raver 2 Comments

Euforquestra from Fort Collins, Colorado

“Euforquestra planted their Euphoric Vibration on the West Coast!”

The seven member band, Eufórquestra, now hailing from Fort Collins, CO, is a funky, reggae infused, soul party not to be missed. Their music, steeped in a hot saxophone sound, invokes serious get down on the dance floor. Combining influences from Cuba, Brazil, and West Africa, the smooth rhythm is impossible not to groove to. The sound is original, an incredible display of musical creativity and freedom. Not limited to one genre, this band has a little bit of something to offer for everyone. At their performance last weekend in Portland, Oregon, the audience was all smiles, cheers-ing to good music and getting their funky dance on. If you find yourself the Colorado way, the band with be joining Kyle Hollingsworth Band (keyboardist of String Cheese Incident) this March for his BrewSki Tour. This is a jam sesh not to be missed my friends.

Hamilton Beach – Ear's Reach

November 25, 2011 By FreioMusic Leave a Comment

“I started making music a few years back, using Ableton Live and Logic. (I use mainly Ableton nowadays.) Ma shit is mainly Electro-jammy-dubby-hip-hop(esque), with maybe a little glitch thrown in for good measure…i draw from a lot of different influences, as you will hear. I have a bachelor’s degree in music from Denison University, and am currently getting my masters degree at the University of Oregon in Intermedia Music Technology. I am based out of Eugene, OR.” – Nate Asman

Ahoy by Hamilton Beach

With continual development Hamilton Beach crashes upon the shores of ones ears. Pleasant enough for early morning melodies.  Hamilton Beach clearly focuses on the synths as they all continually pulse, shrink, and morph.  The clever titles of the compositions, such as “I’ll think of something”, seem to get a little less attention.  After all there are no lyrics in the songs, why should one need to place a word on an instrumental?

Carlos, a 36 year-old from Venezuela, started playing the keyboard at age 17.  After learning the keys, Carlos learned how to sing, play the guitar, laptop, and the cuatro. Carlos is inspired by artists such as:  BB King, Frank Sinatra, the Beatles, Tina Turner, and Simon Diaz.   have-a-listen!~)

Los niños que perdieron la inocencia by Carlos Rada (El musico)

Carlos’s music varies, as is illustrated by his description of his music.  Carlos describes his music as: “Blues, House, Latin, Rock, and World.” This track was released within the last month and is exploring a different direction than other tracks released on soundcloud, the blues (possibly Latin Jazz mixed with rock drums?)… Listen for your self:

The Album Leaf + Sister Crayon – Doug Fir Lounge

September 19, 2011 By Sober_Raver Leave a Comment

Intimate venues are hard to come by. A venue in which you feel some odd close connection to the artist. The Doug Fir Lounge in Portland, Oregon embodies this warm vibe while still upholding its ultra hip reputation. In one word the lounge could be defined as ‘swanky’. Dim lights created a mellow mood, but the vivid neon accents kept the room alive and rocking. The show? The Album Leaf with opener, Sister Crayon. Although the crowd consisted of mostly plaid shirts, facial hair, and glasses (aka the Portland hipster) the show was charged with unimaginable musical talent. Terra Lopez, the lead singer of Sister Crayon, began as a solo act with only a classical guitar and a loop pedal to create the dream-like impression her music leaves. With the addition of Dani Fernandez and Jeffrey LaTour the band united under a new holistic melding of sound.A sound that is beautiful, deep, and full. On stage, Sister Crayon comes to life and is incredible to watch despite the calmness of their music. You can see the passion behind it. Following, The Album Leaf brought a new presence to the stage. The stunning video display and LED vertical lights making shadows on the huge Fir beams beautifully paralleled the mostly instrumental melodies of the band. Their talents displayed an awesome attention to detail and knowledge of sound. The Album Leaf, Sister Crayon + The Doug Fir Lounge = One rad show. I would highly suggest putting on your ‘hippest’ outfit and making your way to a show in the basement of the Doug Fir. Best venue I’ve been to in Portland hands down.

Now or Never (Instrumental) by ashelynsummers

“I use session musicians for the recordings, so it varies a bit by track. I list the credits for each song on my website These are the regulars:

1) Jennifer Takahashi – piano
2) Jervy Hou – piano
3) Hiro Goto – violin, viola
4) Irina Chirkova – cello
5) Dave Stone – double bass
6) Mick Taras – guitar
7) Drew Allsbrook – bass guitar
8) John Ferraro – drums

I asked Ashelyn what inspires her. She replied, “I am classically trained vocally, and much of my songwriting is inspired by composers such as Nobuo Uematsu and Sergei Rachmaninov. I like to incorporate classical techniques into my songs, and I seek to always use real instruments, as a digital counterpart can never fully recreate the nuanced timbre of a live cello, piano, etc. I believe there is great beauty in the complexity of classical compositions, and I hope to one day be able to emulate them more completely.” Well said! *Ashelyn, you are going somewhere! Where ever your music travels, take the us with you. Stay Tuned!*

You Discovered Canasta Hear @FreioMusic

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3GXNBYIAQY%5D

Canasta, from Chicago, Illinois,  could be he next big pop band out if Chi town!  Their music is moving, and the band is tightly knit together.  It is not as if we are the first to notice this talent, Best of Chicago 2010… loaded with intricate yet accessible orchestral pop music— Huffington Post.  I asked Elizabeth (vocals/violin/percussion) about the
direction of the band and what they strive for, and her articulate reply is as follows… “Living amongst the immense musical talent in a city like Chicago is eternally inspiring. But standing apart from the crowd can be a never-ending challenge. So Canasta came together in early 2002 when six friends joined forces and augmented the standard rock set‐up with piano, violin, keyboard and trombone, in an effort to craft a more ambitious strain of majestic, ultra‐melodic, orchestral pop”.    The band is composed of 6 friends:

Jeremy Beckford – guitar / vocals
Sarah Kneebone – piano / keyboard / vocals
Elizabeth Lindau – vocals / violin / percussion
Brian Palmieri – drums
Matt Priest – vocals / bass / trombone / percussion
Ryan Tracy – keyboard / piano / bass / vocals

Every member brings their talents and enthusiasm to create a well-rounded, very talented up and coming band.  “Maybe it’s my ability to pester people to help get stuff done. I’m good and networking when I have time to network. I also do a lot of band administration” Says Elizabeth.  The band is connected to all the right places, and in turn, has a strong and growing network of fans across the globe.   I would not be surprised to see Canasta playing at festivals around America within a year, Look Out Sasquatch!  Stay close to the band by following them on Twitter.
