SnowBallin’ 2014

March 21, 2014 By FreioMusic Leave a Comment

Interested in hearing about what is becoming one of the freshest and most unique festivals in the music industry taking place in the spring snow out in beautiful Colorado?

SnowBall, taking place April 4th-6th in Denver, CO, is definitely a music festival that is truly something different. The festival is being held at an exciting new venue this year, Sports Authority Field in Mile High Stadium. The new venue will provide a wide open space for attendees to interact, explore, dance, and of course, get weird. The SnowBall Stage, which is the main stage, will be outdoors and may provide the opportunity for attendees to put their dance moves on display on a snow covered dance floor. So if you plan on attending, please be safe and be prepared for the cold. The SnowBall Stage will also have a Big Air area beside it where extreme athletes will be performing tricks to tantalize your eyes while your ears are being entertained by bumping beats. Some of the most well known artists will grace the SnowBall stage with their presence. On Friday, be sure to catch the melodies of Jimkata, the funky beats of The Floozies, and then let Knife Party shake you with some heavy bass to close out the first night. On Saturday, the highlights include local 3-piece electronic hydro-funk sensations SunSquabi, funky fresh four piece livetronic group STRFKR, and the one and only Derek Vincent Smith, better known as Pretty Lights, playing his soulful tunes right where his original roots began. Then on Sunday, Chali2Na from Jurassic 5 brings some fresh hip-hop to the stage along with House of Vibe, Busta Rhymes brings an original rap set that you could only get from Busta himself, all before Griz closes out the festival with a funk filled set of jazzy electronic beats that will have you grooving with all of the energy that’s left in the tank.

The other three stages are all in heated tents around the stadium and will each provide their own distinct atmospheres once you are inside. The Groove Tent will feature a variety of music throughout the weekend with the highlights being the grimy electronic beats of Mimosa, the all original tunes of Wave Racer, some funky fresh trap from Lunice, a high energy electro house combined with drumstep set from Kill The Noise, and PLM Party, the not to miss set of the weekend featuring Pretty Lights, Michal Menert, Paul Basic, Supervision, Eliot Lipp, and many more artists from the Pretty Lights Music record label. I personally cannot wait to see what all of these amazing producers co-create up on stage together; the possibilities are endless.

The Ballroom Stage will feature artists who make their craft through either their skills on an instrument or through the sounds of their voice. This stage will provide very different sounds than the others so be sure to make it over there if you are into artists who have their own specific individual sound. Eminence Ensemble will trance you into their one of a kind flow as they rift it on their instruments. Afroman will bring you back in time with his old school style and with jams like “Palmdale”, “When I Got High”, and other 90’s classics. Or be entertained with original electronic acts like Flash/Lights, Trippy Turtle, Twin Shadow, Chrome Sparks, or Rufus Du Sol. No matter who you catch at the Ballroom Stage, you will be sure to be entertained.

The Heat Hut will be where you want to go if you are looking to get down and dirty to some electro house and deep house. This tent will be bumping the beats that will keep your feet moving all weekend long. The highlighting artists whom are playing at the Heat Hut are: Bixel Boys, Option4 and JustinJay on Friday; Graff, J.Phlip, and MK on Saturday; and then Need & Necessity, Maxxi Soundsytem, and Andhim to close out the stage on Sunday. So be sure to groove in the Heat Hut if you’re wanting some non-stop electro house beats.

SnowBall will also feature live ice sculptures by trained artists, free water refill stations, a Vendor Village filled with tons of goodies from artisans, a Merchandise Booth to pick up SnowBall gear, food options from local restaurants to food trucks, drink options from sodas and juices to beers and cocktails, and also late night after parties to keep you going and entertained throughout the weekend. Check out the full lineup breakdown and daily schedules. Get your SnowBall tickets now because prices will go up! Advance 3-day GA and VIP tickets are still available for SnowBall here ; advance single day SnowBall tickets here.

Tantalize your ears with a taste of the music to come this year at SnowBall…

A new festival has emerged onto the Colorado scene this summer. Backdropped by the serene beauty of the Rocky Mountains, Arise Festival has set its sights on being the very essence of a festival –  co-creation, music, art, yoga, and community. Sunrise Ranch, an hour north of Denver, will provide the magical space for festival goers to explore and re-connect with nature and one another. The atmosphere is looking to come together seamlessly, complete with Hemp Village, Kids Village, Organic Food and Beverage Village, and hey, my fellow beer lovers, a Craft Beer and Wine Village!

The festival will also feature a selection of independent films including – Bidder 70, Chasing Water, Arise, and The Bloom. If that doesn’t expand your mind enough – check out the healing space, Temple of the Heart, on site. It will encompass activities like yoga, kirtan, meditation, and a healers tent to completely rejuvinate you- mind, body, and soul.

It’s All About Being You At Sonic Bloom

May 28, 2013 By FreioMusic Leave a Comment

Sonic Bloom is a festival created to help us realize our individual and group potential. It inspires us all to be aware that we all work together to co-create this reality. It is about realizing your full potential and striving to create whatever reality you choose to direct your intentions. I feel like the intentions of Sonic Bloom’s creators are to bring beautiful people together in a wonderful place filled with inspiring music. I feel they will easily succeed in this goal, especially because the festival is stacked with over 100 talented artists each expressing their own vibrations of life through music. I was blessed enough to be able to attend Sonic Bloom last year. It was my first time ever in Colorado and I fell in love with the area and the amazing people that attended the festival. I traveled for over 22 hours by car last year and never regretted a second. Ladies and gentlemen, this is a festival that is worth the trip and definitely should not be missed.

Opiuo @ Dux Live – Christchurch, NZ

April 14, 2013 By Sober_Raver Leave a Comment

IMG_0096 (1)

So stoked to see Opiuo in New Zealand, I took an eight hour bus to catch his show in Christchurch this past weekend. Ready to get super sober raved out, I came in my concert apparel per usual – an eclectic mix of costume box findings , but Opiuo has quite the classy NZ crowd- little black dresses and high heels, ladies. The sold out show at the Dux Live got off to a sweet groove with Tom Cosm before Opiuo took the stage and brought the bass fed funk. Sweaty hands high fived as jams like ‘Don’t Hold Back’ and ‘Good Thymes’ rocked the bar. Smiling faces were everywhere as the head banging wild crowd bumped along with Opiuo’s explosive and captivating stage presence. You can’t help but bounce to the crunchy, glitch vibe of this NZ artist, and when the beat drops…shoot, you better watch out for the girls getting really rowdy on the dance floor. Incorporating sounds that span genres like jazz, reggae, funk, and rock, Opiuo’s music continues to evolve in a fresh and dance-tastic direction. The native Kiwi did his homeland some justice with his addictive beats and high energy vibe. With his international reputation, you Colorado kids can catch Opiuo headlining at Sonic Bloom this year in Georgetown, CO. And if you’re looking for a bumpin’ party to kick off summer, I suggest you don’t miss  it.

Why You Should Go to a Festival Alone

February 5, 2013 By Sober_Raver Leave a Comment

Ah New Zealand. The land of of serene natural beauty, friendly faces… and awesome festivals. Oddly enough, I found myself heading up to Luminate on behalf on my new expatriate boss, not too shabby. Cruising up Takaka Hill onto the mystical Canaan Downs property with a couple from Uruguay, the festival vibes hit good and strong. Making its way into the festival’s sixth year, Luminate 2013 is what every festival aims to be. An extremely international crowd ready to get naked by a tribal fire, groove barefoot the dirt dance floor, participate in workshops, and be inspired about living sustainably. With no alcohol allowed, the stoney energy was peaceful and open.

The opening ceremony, which I now believe every festival should incorporate, gathered the tribes togethers to sing, dance, hold hands, and light the main fire, igniting the seven day journey. This kicked off the nude tribal dancing next to the Pagan circles of fire throughout the different festival zones. Luminate celebrates the ancient summer harvest festival of Lughnasadgh. It was celebrated by our ancestors in all parts of the world. This time is exactly mid way between the summer solstice and autumn equinox when people to gather together, share food, music, stories, knowledge and send a lot of thanks to the earth mother for looking after us.

The workshops in days following were also of incredible caliber. I took courses on eco-villages, tantric meditation, native plant medicine, and Mayan Dreamspell.

Commitment to ZERO WASTE

slide_clean-festival_DSC4642Luminate’s innovative approach to Zero Waste through its Clean Environment Strategy is unique amongst events in New Zealand and the first I have ever experienced: Pack out what you pack in, composting toilettes, solar/wood fired showers, no recycle or trash bins, bring your own cup/bowl/plate/utensils…. it is all quite awesome.

As my first solo festival, I had to let go of all my inhibitions and hop into random circles of strumming guitars and rotating spliffs. I found a rad posse of travelers: my lanky UK stoner and compost toilette extraordinaire, a Canadian meaning of life seeker, and a beautiful German who taught me the hip new movement of electronic swing. So why do the solo festival?

1. Being by yourself you have no real obligations to be anywhere or find anyone

2. You’re on your own time where time doesn’t really matter

3. No consulting- go where you want to go – this way, you meet an incredible amount of people

But back to the music, eh?

This artist bumped Luminate and kept the Live Stage vibin late into the night. He is a Juno Award-nominated music producer, composer, sound designer, and DJ who brings his powerful global groovin sounds to the world stage. Many of my new German friends at the festival dug a new genre of electro dubbed – Gypsy Swing- Check out the new sounds!

Best World Music: Mundi

“Unique and bursting with creative genius” Presto Arts & Culture

This group was matched the perfectly sunny afternoon…world music to move to.

Surfing SoundWaves

July 12, 2012 By Scott Leave a Comment

Two Fresh Tracks from Surfing SoundWaves

Scott Brown, AKA Surfing SoundWaves, returns to FreioMusic. The 22 year old Denver native illuminates your mind with his smooth and tasty style of music. The bass hits heavy and the leads ride smooth like Orangatang wheels. Here are two tracks from Surfing SoundWave’s upcoming EP “Guerilla Warfare” (due to drop late this fall) for free download! Each jam has it’s own distinct journey and feel. The Cozza Frenzy Remix bangs hard, making use of heavy leads and phat sub-bass. “Guerilla Warfare” (the title track) is a deep, ominous ride through the unknown. This young producer really shows promise as he continues to improve and explore his sound. The big stages are calling for Surfing SoundWaves!

The Nature Stage –

See above photo

A mystery set in the woods at nature stage, by Ekim. With the backdrop of an incredible Oregonian rainforest scene (see above Picture).  Ekim could throw it down to amuse and confuse the crowd simultaneously.  Ekim also knew how to change it up, and he would do so at will, not according to the set list but by what people were getting down to.  With heavy wobbles and Super-Sound speakers taller than the average taller person.  The variety of sound was great and the noise selection was very thought-out and carefully placed in space.

His style was new to me but I almost instantly became a fan and had to dance.   Please contact us on facebook or twitter or e-mail us if you can help us find Ekim’s Music, e-mail, or profile Anywhere, can someone help us!?  Ekim from Human Nature, hello?
