These two are only 21 and 24 years young, and clearly have a grasp on bonding the visual and audio to create an extraordinary experience delighted two powerful senses. We can’t wait to see what these guys will make in the future. They said: “We try not to stick to a particular genre, we let our fans group us in whatever genre they seem fit.”  Ok, I’ll take a stab at it:  Abstract, electro, digtal, house, strangely symmetrical, visually mind bending, and auditory stimulating.

Moris Code

Drew Wood (aka Moris Code): from Billings, Montana, USA

Drew started playing music at age 8, and now plays the piano, keyboard, sings, and mixes using a laptop.  His style represents the fuzion of several genres such as breakbeat, electronic, ambient, and dub.   With an understanding for other’s style, Drew stated, in an interview that his music represents a “personalized musical experience. To each their own, part of the reason why I try to avoid a certain genre. Quite a few different styles are incorporated, [in my music]”.  Clearly an inspired 23 year old, who’s career is on the rise and full of potential.

Moris Code’s Style has a binary feel with an electronic base. Moris Code is always cooking up new tracks. In fact, Moris Code just released a banger, called Nocturnal Soundwaves. This song (which you should listen to below,) has a nice spacious intro with an array of syths and sounds.  Drew, the mastermind behind Moris Code, is mastering his craft with a touch of sensitivity a dabble of classical, and a heavy dose of electronic.  The name ‘Moris Code’ suggests a binary nature with focus on development and spacing over time.  Worth the time: Stop, listen and appreciate.

Beatz and Peaces

BEATZ & PEACES: Bowling Green, Kentucky

Scotty Tichenor & Aaron Green are the minds behind the sound.

Influenced by: Pretty Lights, Lotus, and Zoogma. 

In their own words: “Beatz & Peaces is a fusion between dub, dance, electronic jams and break beats. Influenced by many different bands and styles we bring a very technical, new and unique sound to the table. Breaking the barriers were music has to have specific genres..”

Bits and Nibbles of samples, synths, and lyrics. With a busy array of electronic and sound, Beatz & Peaces twists audio at will to create a unique playful sound. Despite the electronic feel they are musicians, playing the Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keyboard, as well as Vocals. They also prove that a laptop is an instrument that can be mastered.

Two Song Descriptions/ Reactions: (leave your reactions and comment below!)

Northern Lights, has an acoustic guitar intro riff that sets the tone for the rest of the song. It is a great tallent to be able to combine acoustic instrumentation to the digital spectrum of sound. 

Lost in Translation: With an eerie sounds, synths, loops, bells, bass, vocals is a airy blend of vibration. To me it is a cloudy idea presented with clarity. LFOs wobble the speaker’s face (and surly your own), while “_*^&^%_, _*^&^%__, Bang” brings you back to reality.  With sounds that resemble 90’s Nintendo 64 game sounds (james-bond or perfect dark), it has a unique feel, flow and development.

Josh Warry is a returning Freio Artist for his self titled solo project, while Rohan makes his Freio debute. This new partnership is bound to blow up! With minimalistic leads, a low, smooth bass, and tranquil drums, Finite State brings an ambient vibe that is almost mesmerizing. I’m excited to see where the music takes this young and talented duo. “I started writing music at the age of 13 and recorded my first song on my 14th birthday. I remember that day like it was just yesterday, I rapped over Nas, Lil Wayne, and Cassidy instrumentals. Since a young age i had always loved music and had that feeling that not only could i create music, but i could be good if not great at it. If i had to make a Top 5 MC list it would be 2pac,Nas,Andre 3000,Lauryn Hill and Common, No specific order. These are the MC’s who inspired me the most, but i studied so many more if not everyone before me. I love what the young/new up and coming artist are doing for the game (J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar, K.R.I.T.,Curren$y, Wale) and i think that its up to US to bring it back to what people grew to love. With my music i try to be unique and not just chase after the next hit song. I push hard to make music that I want to make first, then make sure it is something real and easy to relate to. I love to make people think and broaden their imagination while listening to my music, rather it be just a lyric that might go over your head or a whole song concept that makes you want to dig deeper. My main goals with my music are just to be heard and make a person feel emotions while listening,even angry. If i know i can make a person upset and piss them off with my music, then i know its possible to make them smile, then laugh, cry then ultimately go out and search for their biological parents or something. The last but first thing that i do it for is my city, DENVER. There is so much unheard talent out here it kills me to listen to ‘local’ artist. I have always said i dont care if im the first through the door, the last, or the most famous. I will be satisfied knowing that i played a role in opening the door for this ‘Denver Renaissance Movement’. I know everyone cant be the star, If im not a Martin Luther King, what’s wrong with being W.E.B. DuBois?

What is the Beat Molecular? The Beat Molecular is an Electronic Music Label from Pakisan!

Well to start off, what is your name?  “My name is Saquib Malik (pronounced Saakib) and my main partner is Abeer Sheikh. Our two other partners are Talal and Zoi. We are all pretty much best friends and grew up together in Lahore, Pakistan, and all started playing music together…. we grew up in Lahore in Pakistan, but today we are all over the world. Our name as a record label is THE BEAT MOLECULAR- and we each spin and produce under our real names, no DJ-sassyrazmatazz bullshit, no offense… we just think our names are unique enough. But again, our label is the beat molecular and it is from Pakistan.”

What is your vision for the Beat Molecular? “We are Pakistan’s first electronic music label. We want to take the best Pakistani artists, collect them, put them out into the world of electronic music and eventually have them break out onto the scenes and circuits where they belong- not just house parties and basements… Instead to spread them and book them all over the world… Pakistan is full of the most insane, mad, amazing, genius raw talent we have seen and we have seen many scenes! We started an underground house/tech house/minimal/techno/deep house scene in Pakistan which is thriving even though some of us are abroad… after Pakistan, where else could we expand, right?
We are each artists who have accomplished/proven ourselves to be of some worth…. Talal and Zoi are on so many labels we lost count, from Rawthentic (Carlo Lio’s label) to Dirtybird (Claude Von Stroke’s) to Airbus to Dantze (Phillip Bader’s label) to Bosphorous Underground (Ahmet Sendil’s label) and so many more… they have several beatport chartings and just are making noise everywhere! The same goes for Abeer Sheikh who on Dantze Records produced I wanna be like you that hit the beatport top 10 the third day it came out, for our boy Hassan Malik (Vivid) whose on Sorobu records, Deso records, and the massive SETA! and the only person in Pakistan who is any good at producing and spinning deep house! to Saquib who used to run a huge death/black metal label and toured the whole US/Canada and all the way to Imaad Manzar, a man who has owned/bumped/thumped/destroyed dancefloors all over Pakistan and is a well known name in the local Lahore scene. Each artist brings his own cult, and well our vision is to expand that cult to the tiniest corners of the world!”

What instruments do you play, and what style would you call your music?  “We are all multi-instrumental… We all literally play every instrument from guitar, bass, drums, keys, vocals, and Sitar! Squib tall and imaad all used to play in metal bands (death metal) and we each played different forms of music before getting into electronic music.”

Sketch, from Pakistan!

The Beat Molecular, the first electronic music label in Pakistan, is certainly growing fast and headed in a positive direction with well educated, and cultured individuals leading the way.  One duo to come out of the Beat Molecular is Sketch.  Sketch is composed of Abeer Sheik and Saquib Malik.   Abeer is back in Lahore, Pakistan in law school, while Saquib is in Grenada (a small island near South-America) in medical school.  An interesting combination of cultures styles, degrees, and influences.  Check them out:
