Chris Ilett

October 4, 2011 By Michael Leave a Comment

Chris Ilett form Leicester, United Kingdom

Chris started playing music at the age of 12 and his thirst for music still isn’t quenched. Chris Illet’s tallent spans multiple instruments including guitar, vocals, bass, and a laptop.  His style: Rock.  His signiture: Vocals, which are comparable to the lead singer of Bush, Gavin Rossdale and Bob Dylan.  Bush is from London, coincidence?  I think Not.  Chris’s voice has a raspy weathered timbre. His distorted guitar solos tear through the backing instruments with clarity.  He discribes his sound as “Troubled, intense, [and] raw.” Sound appealing? Hear for yourself!

Young Hamm Remix Champion

How to be a Hip Hop Hit!

Gucci Gucci ft Yung Hamm-Mr RaW-Still RaW

Young Hamm = Hip-HoP Hit from the West!

Young Hamm, with some help from Mr. RaW, laid it down smooth with some weezy inspired vocals, sick verses, slick choruses and a swag to match. Their approach, leave the instrumental as is, and follow the structure of the original song. Every chorus is slightly different, which shows an attention to detail, and development throughout the song. The lyrics are energized, driven, and of course creative.

“Lyrically a new drug like crack and Novocain.  When I drop you know I came a meateater,  but steezer, a beat eater.  I merk the track, I guess for me its easier” -Mr. RaW.   “Crush’n on Kreayshawn!” -Young Hamm

From a mixing/mastering standpoint, the vocals were nicely placed in the front of the mix with a subtle but helpful reverb + echo. How to be a Hip Hop Hit!  To all the musically inspired youth readers out there, take note~  Listen to Young Hamm’s new album.  My favorite track:  #8 Feel Me

Discover A Rising Artist! Listen to Young Hamm’s new album: Rope-A-Dope

Rope-A-Dope – A term popularized by Muhammad Ali who would let the opponent think they’ve won, and then unexpectedly lash out for the win. Rope-A-Dope.

Gucci Gucci (4ESH!’s Dubstep FreioRemix)

Names: Alejandro Diaz, Javier Lopez

Style and Influences:

“4ESH! started when myself (Alejandro Diaz “DT0X”) and my long time high school friend (Javier Lopez “Avilo”) decided to collab and create music. I started when I was 17 and now we are 23 and 25. We love creating all genres of electronic music but prefer electro house. We have too many influences both in our genre and outside said genre to name. We have a nice following here in Miami but want to expand our horizon.”

Gucci Gucci ft Yung Hamm-Mr RaW-Still RaW

Name: Kenneth Henderson

Collaboration with:  Mr.RaW

Style and Influences:

“I started writing music at the age of 13 and recorded my first song on my 14th birthday. I remember that day like it was just yesterday, I rapped over Nas, Lil Wayne, and Cassidy instrumentals. Since a young age i had always loved music and had that feeling that not only could i create music, but i could be good if not great at it. If i had to make a Top 5 MC list it would be 2pac,Nas,Andre 3000,Lauryn Hill and Common, No specific order. These are the MC’s who inspired me the most, but i studied so many more if not everyone before me. I love what the young/new up and coming artist are doing for the game (J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar, K.R.I.T.,Curren$y, Wale) and i think that its up to US to bring it back to what people grew to love. With my music i try to be unique and not just chase after the next hit song. I push hard to make music that I want to make first, then make sure it is something real and easy to relate to. I love to make people think and broaden their imagination while listening to my music, rather it be just a lyric that might go over your head or a whole song concept that makes you want to dig deeper. My main goals with my music are just to be heard and make a person feel emotions while listening, even angry. If i know i can make a person upset and piss them off with my music, then i know its possible to make them smile, then laugh, cry then ultimately go out and search for their biological parents or something. The last but first thing that i do it for is my city, DENVER. There is so much unheard talent out here it kills me to listen to ‘local’ artist. I have always said i dont care if im the first through the door, the last, or the most famous. I will be satisfied knowing that i played a role in opening the door for this ‘Denver Renaissance Movement’. I know everyone cant be the star, If im not a Martin Luther King, what’s wrong with being W.E.B. DuBois?

Whitewater Ramble – Sam Bond’s Garage

September 23, 2011 By Sober_Raver Leave a Comment

Whitewater Ramble, a “Colorado-bred, High-Octane Rocky Mountain DanceGrass” band, threw down some foot stomping jams last night at the infamous Sam Bond’s Garage in Eugene, Oregon. The genre melding this band can do on stage is absolutely incredible. The Boulder Camera had this to say, “With a list of influences that reaches into every corner of contemporary music, from reggae to blues to country and beyond, WhiteWater Ramble pushes the boundaries of the form way past the edge. It ain’t your grandpappy’s jug-band music anymore, now it’s jam-grass.” The band began with their own tunes and followed with a 90 minute Grateful Dead cover set to kick off Further’s three day stopover in Eugene. And no better way to do so than at the rocking venue of Sam Bond’s. It took only a couple songs and a few mason jars full of local brews to get everyone up off their feet and shakin’ it to this rad band. The energy they all harnessed on stage made the music only that much better. Whitewater Ramble’s multifaceted style is too good to miss, ain’t nothin’ like Colorado grass.

the Beat Molecular

September 21, 2011 By Michael Leave a Comment

the Beat Molecular

What is the Beat Molecular? The Beat Molecular is an Electronic Music Label from Pakisan!

Well to start off, what is your name?  “My name is Saquib Malik (pronounced Saakib) and my main partner is Abeer Sheikh. Our two other partners are Talal and Zoi. We are all pretty much best friends and grew up together in Lahore, Pakistan, and all started playing music together…. we grew up in Lahore in Pakistan, but today we are all over the world. Our name as a record label is THE BEAT MOLECULAR- and we each spin and produce under our real names, no DJ-sassyrazmatazz bullshit, no offense… we just think our names are unique enough. But again, our label is the beat molecular and it is from Pakistan.”

What is your vision for the Beat Molecular? “We are Pakistan’s first electronic music label. We want to take the best Pakistani artists, collect them, put them out into the world of electronic music and eventually have them break out onto the scenes and circuits where they belong- not just house parties and basements… Instead to spread them and book them all over the world… Pakistan is full of the most insane, mad, amazing, genius raw talent we have seen and we have seen many scenes! We started an underground house/tech house/minimal/techno/deep house scene in Pakistan which is thriving even though some of us are abroad… after Pakistan, where else could we expand, right?
We are each artists who have accomplished/proven ourselves to be of some worth…. Talal and Zoi are on so many labels we lost count, from Rawthentic (Carlo Lio’s label) to Dirtybird (Claude Von Stroke’s) to Airbus to Dantze (Phillip Bader’s label) to Bosphorous Underground (Ahmet Sendil’s label) and so many more… they have several beatport chartings and just are making noise everywhere! The same goes for Abeer Sheikh who on Dantze Records produced I wanna be like you that hit the beatport top 10 the third day it came out, for our boy Hassan Malik (Vivid) whose on Sorobu records, Deso records, and the massive SETA! and the only person in Pakistan who is any good at producing and spinning deep house! to Saquib who used to run a huge death/black metal label and toured the whole US/Canada and all the way to Imaad Manzar, a man who has owned/bumped/thumped/destroyed dancefloors all over Pakistan and is a well known name in the local Lahore scene. Each artist brings his own cult, and well our vision is to expand that cult to the tiniest corners of the world!”

What instruments do you play, and what style would you call your music?  “We are all multi-instrumental… We all literally play every instrument from guitar, bass, drums, keys, vocals, and Sitar! Squib tall and imaad all used to play in metal bands (death metal) and we each played different forms of music before getting into electronic music.”

Sketch, from Pakistan!

The Beat Molecular, the first electronic music label in Pakistan, is certainly growing fast and headed in a positive direction with well educated, and cultured individuals leading the way.  One duo to come out of the Beat Molecular is Sketch.  Sketch is composed of Abeer Sheik and Saquib Malik.   Abeer is back in Lahore, Pakistan in law school, while Saquib is in Grenada (a small island near South-America) in medical school.  An interesting combination of cultures styles, degrees, and influences.  Check them out:

The Album Leaf + Sister Crayon – Doug Fir Lounge

September 19, 2011 By Sober_Raver Leave a Comment

Intimate venues are hard to come by. A venue in which you feel some odd close connection to the artist. The Doug Fir Lounge in Portland, Oregon embodies this warm vibe while still upholding its ultra hip reputation. In one word the lounge could be defined as ‘swanky’. Dim lights created a mellow mood, but the vivid neon accents kept the room alive and rocking. The show? The Album Leaf with opener, Sister Crayon. Although the crowd consisted of mostly plaid shirts, facial hair, and glasses (aka the Portland hipster) the show was charged with unimaginable musical talent. Terra Lopez, the lead singer of Sister Crayon, began as a solo act with only a classical guitar and a loop pedal to create the dream-like impression her music leaves. With the addition of Dani Fernandez and Jeffrey LaTour the band united under a new holistic melding of sound.A sound that is beautiful, deep, and full. On stage, Sister Crayon comes to life and is incredible to watch despite the calmness of their music. You can see the passion behind it. Following, The Album Leaf brought a new presence to the stage. The stunning video display and LED vertical lights making shadows on the huge Fir beams beautifully paralleled the mostly instrumental melodies of the band. Their talents displayed an awesome attention to detail and knowledge of sound. The Album Leaf, Sister Crayon + The Doug Fir Lounge = One rad show. I would highly suggest putting on your ‘hippest’ outfit and making your way to a show in the basement of the Doug Fir. Best venue I’ve been to in Portland hands down.

Florida 4ESH

September 16, 2011 By Michael 2 Comments

4ESH from Miami, FL

Javier Lopez & Alejandro Diaz are the talented DJ Duo that make up”4ESH!” from Miami, FL.  I asked the duo, what their vison for 4ESH is?  They replied “to create electronic music in any genre that is big or has been big at some point. We are a lot like MSTRKRFT meaning we adapt our sound with changing times while always working together. Hopefully we can go on tour with a big record label one day and play our music to big crowds all across the world.”

I asked the duo how they created their sound.  The responded “we basically produce all of our music on Ableton Live and we have a wide range of instruments/ synthesizers that we use and would be too many to list.” What style of music do you produce? “Our music can be categorized anywhere between electro/ electro house/ dubstep/ moombahton/ trance/ house/ deutch house since we like to take our talents to all genres that are being played.”

These 4ESH boys have a sense of humor when it comes to song artwork (See Right).  Wether or not you enjoy this music is probably dependent on wether or not the genres electronic, trance and dub interests you.  If it does, Listen UP!

This track is a whomping 62 Minutes of mind-numbing trance, house, and electro that should be heard around the globe!  Recommended for late night dance party or for a revitalizing rejuvenating turn into trance any time of day.  With surprising turns, twists, low/highpass swells, and drops till tomorrow, this song will keep you entertained all 62 minutes.

Madhushree Bhattacharya from India

September 15, 2011 By Michael 1 Comment

Madhushree from Mumbai, India

FreioMusic is pleased to have the opportunity to feature such a rising star. Madhushree has become a well known playback singer in the Hindi film industry and quickly gaining a name for herself as a spectacular vocalist all around the world. Her bio tells the story well.  “In the short span of just a few years, Madhushree has risen rapidly to become one of the leading playback singers in the Hindi film industry. She has lent her honeyed voice to almost all the leading actresses of today, including Aishwarya Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee, Preity Zinta and Katrina Kaif among several others.” – madhushree.com (biography)

U heard it HEAR @freioMusic

ComScoreComScore
“It was Oscar winner A.R. Rahman who brought her into the limelight with his unforgettable composition, ‘Kabhi neem neem kabhi shahad shahad…’ in Mani Ratnam’s film ‘Yuva’. This song gave Madhushree the kind of recognition which every singer dreams of. Besides becoming one of the most popular songs of that year, it also got her the coveted Sony Stardust Award for the Best Female Playback Singing Sensation. The same song also got her nominated in all the major film awards… After that, there was no looking back for Madhushree.

Once again, it was A. R. Rahman who introduced Madhushree to the Tamil film industry. Thanks to her formidable vocal skills, she made her mark there too, singing not only Tamil, but also Telugu and Kannada songs. Top music directors of the south like Vidya Sagar, Harish Jairaj, Yuvan Shankar, D Imaan, Kartik Raja, Deena, Deva, J Prakash and many others used her musical prowess to its full potential. Expectedly, all Tamil and Telugu songs ranging from Vaaji Vaaji from Sivaji-The Boss to Marudhaani became huge hits in the south.

With her stunning live performances at the World Tour with her mentor A R Rahman, Madhushree created a sensation, enthralling audiences in USA, Canada, Europe, Australia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai and back home in India. Her most remarkable performance was at the Hollywood Bowl in L.A., organized by The Philharmonic Orchestra of L.A.

…A gold medalist in Indian classical music, Madhushree is an accomplished exponent of the khayal and thumri, two of the most difficult forms of music. Her recent thumri album ‘Lagi Lagan’, composed by Robby Badal, stood at the top of the chart for seven weeks on Radio Mirchi.” Madhushree also proved her skills as a mentor and co-singer with Sachin Tyagi in the musical reality show ‘Jhoom India’, in which they bagged the first prize. In another reality show, ‘The Performer’, Madhushree joined music directors Ravindra Jain and Shravan Rathod as a judge.

From the overwhelming audience response to her band ‘Magic M’ all over the globe, it is clearly evident that Madhushree is now a name to reckon with in the music world.
Some of her super hit songs include:

‘Yaar Mila Tha’ – Blue,
‘Tum bin bataye..’ – Rang De Basanti,
‘In Lamhon Ke’ – Jodhaa Akhbar,
‘Hum Hain Iss pal yahan..’ – Kisna,
‘Kabhi neem neem..’ – Yuva,
‘Naina milayke..’ – Saathiya,
‘Mahi ve..’ – Kal Ho Na Ho,
’Tumhe aaj maine jo dekha..’ – Kuchh Naa Kaho,
‘Tum mujhe bas yuhi..’ – Aetbaar,
‘Pal pal hai bhari..’ – Swades,
‘Vaaji vaaji..’ – Shivaji The Boss
” – http://www.madhushree.com/ (biography)

Madhushree is well connected and networked. Her talent is undoubted, and we imagine Madhushree will continue to impress audiences across the globe for some time to come. Truly a rising star!

Ashelyn Summers is a talented and rising artist from Irvine (a city in Orange County) California.  She has a voice compairable to the extraordinary female vocalist in Evanescence,  Amy Lee.  Ashelyn is young, inspired, and keen to
social networking strategy.  “I started releasing each track from my debut
album “Key To My Heart” as a single starting in June 2010. The album itself was released on May 21, 2011.  She has room to grow, and many places to show!  Ashelyn teams up with studio musicians to make her tracks (See Below).  With one step left, and another step in the right direction, Ashelyn will be on her way to the big stages.

“I use session musicians for the recordings, so it varies a bit by track. I list the credits for each song on my website These are the regulars:

1) Jennifer Takahashi – piano
2) Jervy Hou – piano
3) Hiro Goto – violin, viola
4) Irina Chirkova – cello
5) Dave Stone – double bass
6) Mick Taras – guitar
7) Drew Allsbrook – bass guitar
8) John Ferraro – drums

I asked Ashelyn what inspires her. She replied, “I am classically trained vocally, and much of my songwriting is inspired by composers such as Nobuo Uematsu and Sergei Rachmaninov. I like to incorporate classical techniques into my songs, and I seek to always use real instruments, as a digital counterpart can never fully recreate the nuanced timbre of a live cello, piano, etc. I believe there is great beauty in the complexity of classical compositions, and I hope to one day be able to emulate them more completely.” Well said! *Ashelyn, you are going somewhere!
