Madhushree Bhattacharya from India

September 15, 2011 By Michael 1 Comment

Madhushree from Mumbai, India

FreioMusic is pleased to have the opportunity to feature such a rising star. Madhushree has become a well known playback singer in the Hindi film industry and quickly gaining a name for herself as a spectacular vocalist all around the world. Her bio tells the story well.  “In the short span of just a few years, Madhushree has risen rapidly to become one of the leading playback singers in the Hindi film industry. She has lent her honeyed voice to almost all the leading actresses of today, including Aishwarya Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee, Preity Zinta and Katrina Kaif among several others.” – madhushree.com (biography)

“It was Oscar winner A.R. Rahman who brought her into the limelight with his unforgettable composition, ‘Kabhi neem neem kabhi shahad shahad…’ in Mani Ratnam’s film ‘Yuva’. This song gave Madhushree the kind of recognition which every singer dreams of. Besides becoming one of the most popular songs of that year, it also got her the coveted Sony Stardust Award for the Best Female Playback Singing Sensation. The same song also got her nominated in all the major film awards… After that, there was no looking back for Madhushree.

Once again, it was A. R. Rahman who introduced Madhushree to the Tamil film industry. Thanks to her formidable vocal skills, she made her mark there too, singing not only Tamil, but also Telugu and Kannada songs. Top music directors of the south like Vidya Sagar, Harish Jairaj, Yuvan Shankar, D Imaan, Kartik Raja, Deena, Deva, J Prakash and many others used her musical prowess to its full potential. Expectedly, all Tamil and Telugu songs ranging from Vaaji Vaaji from Sivaji-The Boss to Marudhaani became huge hits in the south.

With her stunning live performances at the World Tour with her mentor A R Rahman, Madhushree created a sensation, enthralling audiences in USA, Canada, Europe, Australia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai and back home in India. Her most remarkable performance was at the Hollywood Bowl in L.A., organized by The Philharmonic Orchestra of L.A.

…A gold medalist in Indian classical music, Madhushree is an accomplished exponent of the khayal and thumri, two of the most difficult forms of music. Her recent thumri album ‘Lagi Lagan’, composed by Robby Badal, stood at the top of the chart for seven weeks on Radio Mirchi.” Madhushree also proved her skills as a mentor and co-singer with Sachin Tyagi in the musical reality show ‘Jhoom India’, in which they bagged the first prize. In another reality show, ‘The Performer’, Madhushree joined music directors Ravindra Jain and Shravan Rathod as a judge.

From the overwhelming audience response to her band ‘Magic M’ all over the globe, it is clearly evident that Madhushree is now a name to reckon with in the music world.
Some of her super hit songs include:

‘Yaar Mila Tha’ – Blue,
‘Tum bin bataye..’ – Rang De Basanti,
‘In Lamhon Ke’ – Jodhaa Akhbar,
‘Hum Hain Iss pal yahan..’ – Kisna,
‘Kabhi neem neem..’ – Yuva,
‘Naina milayke..’ – Saathiya,
‘Mahi ve..’ – Kal Ho Na Ho,
’Tumhe aaj maine jo dekha..’ – Kuchh Naa Kaho,
‘Tum mujhe bas yuhi..’ – Aetbaar,
‘Pal pal hai bhari..’ – Swades,
‘Vaaji vaaji..’ – Shivaji The Boss
” – http://www.madhushree.com/ (biography)

Madhushree is well connected and networked. Her talent is undoubted, and we imagine Madhushree will continue to impress audiences across the globe for some time to come. Truly a rising star!

social networking strategy.  “I started releasing each track from my debut

The album itself was released on May 21, 2011.  She has room to grow, and many places to show!  Ashelyn teams up with studio musicians to make her tracks (See Below).  With one step left, and another step in the right direction, Ashelyn will be on her way to the big stages.

“I use session musicians for the recordings, so it varies a bit by track. I list the credits for each song on my website These are the regulars:

1) Jennifer Takahashi – piano
2) Jervy Hou – piano
3) Hiro Goto – violin, viola
4) Irina Chirkova – cello
5) Dave Stone – double bass
6) Mick Taras – guitar
7) Drew Allsbrook – bass guitar
8) John Ferraro – drums

I asked Ashelyn what inspires her. She replied, “I am classically trained vocally, and much of my songwriting is inspired by composers such as Nobuo Uematsu and Sergei Rachmaninov. I like to incorporate classical techniques into my songs, and I seek to always use real instruments, as a digital counterpart can never fully recreate the nuanced timbre of a live cello, piano, etc. I believe there is great beauty in the complexity of classical compositions, and I hope to one day be able to emulate them more completely.” Well said! *Ashelyn, you are going somewhere! Where ever your music travels, take the us with you. Stay Tuned!*

StefM

September 12, 2011 By Michael 3 Comments

Stephan Meulen from the United Kingdom

Stefan Meulen has been in the music industry for years floating around genres and bands. Today Stefan is into the dub-electro scene with hints of house, and dance.   “My move into dub and breaks came after a long time performing with bands in different genres when I decided to write some solo material. I have been dj-ing dub for years now and have always loved the dub and ska sounds which have had such an influence in the british music scene since my childhood in the 70’s and 80’s so it seemed a natural progression to start producing dub myself”.

StefM (as he goes by on on Soundcloud) makes his music in his  “home studio near the sea in Yorkshire. Mainly my music is
created on my PC and laptop using software but I try to fit some of my instruments in where I can, especially the more unusual ones such as the Dan Moi and Didgeridoo”.  Stefan’s ability to play acoustic instruments sets him apart from many DJ’s who only ‘play the computer’.  I asked stephan what age he started playing music at… “I am currently 37 but I performed my first gig as a rhythm guitarist in a heavy metal band at the age of 16 and I have drifted in and out of the music scene ever since.  I have been in a folk/punk band, played guitar and sung at acoustic nights and open mic slots, performed as a didgeridoo player and Dj’d Dub and Psy Trance at raves and free-parties”.

Without doubt, StefM has the sound that will move crowds.  I would like to get to see him play here in the USA someday soon.

Mitch Daniels from London

Mitch is a Singer/Songwriter born in Kenya, now lives in London, Britain (UK). With a mellow and uplifting folk sound, Mitch Daniels is sure to be appreciated by the classic rock fans of the world. There is something everlasting and timeless about acoustic instrumentation, and Mitch has hopped on board the eternal Acoustic Sound Train. Mitch describes his sound as “acoustic folk/pop. Influences include, Jason Mraz, Paolo Nutini, Jack Johnson, Bon Iver, and number of others” he says.  Mitch’s vision: “to work, work and work and make a successful career for myself in music. The dream is to play my own songs for crowds of people, and for them to love them as much as I do!”

Although Mitch Daniels has been on SoundCloud for only three Months, he is taking quick steps in the marketing department, and active on many social networks (see below Links).  With such a work ethic and persistence, Mitch is bound to be heard!  We are anticipating some more new music from this artist within the year.  Mitch collaborates with other musicians in the studio, but will we soon see a Mitch Daniels Band?…Perhaps Mitch Daniels Trio?…  Stay Tuned!

Sparky and the RandOm bAnD

September 2, 2011 By Michael Leave a Comment

Sparky certainly has a unique sound and style which deserves recognition.  Nothing like original arrhythmic sounds that …. question the mind. This 33 year old from Minnesota (1st artist from Minnesota featured on FreioMusic!!) teams up with his wife to create the videos below.

“The music is mostly live instruments modified with effects pedals recorded in live improvised sessions. It is inspired by free jazz and beat poetry but done electronically.
The videos are shot with a canon digital camera and then modified with Magix Movie edit pro 17. Some editing and modifying is done with Magix music maker pro 17 on some of the audio tracks. We have a blog describing the instruments and processes a little more
Enjoy the road trip and thanks for the interest.”  -Patrick “Sparky”

Young Hamm

Rope-A-Dope:  A new Album by Young Hamm!

Young Hamm, previously featured as the Hammer in Champion, drops a new solo album, Rope-A-Dope! Why? Because Hamm Can!  Young Hamm is improving by the track and perfecting his flow. No one hit wonder, Young Hamm is here to stay. Hammer and Champion reunite on a couple of great tracks, my favorite, #4, “the One”, on the album Rope-A-Dope though in the spotlight tonight, is Young Hamm. This Artist is not done learning, attending college, and is pursuing a Mass Media Arts major. Young Hamm is quickly making jumps towards the big stage.  Together, Hammer and Champion from Denver, Colorado know how to hype up the crowd, and lyrically throw down to match the hype. Hammer & Champion have proven to be rising stars in the hip-hop industry, which will hopefully shine light on the Colorado music scene. Also check out the songs “Feel Me”, “Funny People”, and “Survival”.

You Discovered Canasta Hear @FreioMusic

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3GXNBYIAQY%5D

Canasta, from Chicago, Illinois,  could be he next big pop band out if Chi town!  Their music is moving, and the band is tightly knit together.  It is not as if we are the first to notice this talent, Best of Chicago 2010… loaded with intricate yet accessible orchestral pop music— Huffington Post.  I asked Elizabeth (vocals/violin/percussion) about the
direction of the band and what they strive for, and her articulate reply is as follows… “Living amongst the immense musical talent in a city like Chicago is eternally inspiring. But standing apart from the crowd can be a never-ending challenge. So Canasta came together in early 2002 when six friends joined forces and augmented the standard rock set‐up with piano, violin, keyboard and trombone, in an effort to craft a more ambitious strain of majestic, ultra‐melodic, orchestral pop”.    The band is composed of 6 friends:

Jeremy Beckford – guitar / vocals
Sarah Kneebone – piano / keyboard / vocals
Elizabeth Lindau – vocals / violin / percussion
Brian Palmieri – drums
Matt Priest – vocals / bass / trombone / percussion
Ryan Tracy – keyboard / piano / bass / vocals

Every member brings their talents and enthusiasm to create a well-rounded, very talented up and coming band.  “Maybe it’s my ability to pester people to help get stuff done. I’m good and networking when I have time to network. I also do a lot of band administration” Says Elizabeth.  The band is connected to all the right places, and in turn, has a strong and growing network of fans across the globe.   I would not be surprised to see Canasta playing at festivals around America within a year, Look Out Sasquatch!  Stay close to the band by following them on Twitter.
