Looking Forward to My First Photosynthesis

July 13, 2013 By FreioMusic Leave a Comment

I have never been to a Photosynthesis Festival before but I have heard nothing but good things about the festival. So as soon as Michael Manahan, the producer of Photosynthesis, offered me the opportunity to work press for FreioMusic, I jumped right on the chance to attend this unique Pacific Northwest festival. Looking forward to capturing the Photosynthesis experience.

The venue for Photosynthesis Festival is on the most northern beach on the west coast in the US. It takes place on a Makah Indian Reservation at Hobuck Beach Resort in Neah Bay, Washington. This venue sounds amazing and I’m stoked to be able to explore the beautiful scenery by the Washington coast and to be able to get down on the dance floor at Photosynthesis.

The lineup for this festival is absolutely epic. They have Kalya Scintilla, Russ Liquid, Bim Tim, Plantrae, Gaudi, Kaminanda, Aligning Minds, Drumspyder, Justin Martin, Luke Mandala, Splatinum, and tons of other talented artists to entertain you and keep you grooving all weekend long. There are three stages: Mandala Dome Stage, Dream Dome Stage, and Beach Stage.

Here is a FreioMusic playlist that I made previewing most of the artists playing at Photosynthesis Festival this year:

It’s All About Being You At Sonic Bloom

May 28, 2013 By FreioMusic Leave a Comment

Sonic Bloom is a festival created to help us realize our individual and group potential. It inspires us all to be aware that we all work together to co-create this reality. It is about realizing your full potential and striving to create whatever reality you choose to direct your intentions. I feel like the intentions of Sonic Bloom’s creators are to bring beautiful people together in a wonderful place filled with inspiring music. I feel they will easily succeed in this goal, especially because the festival is stacked with over 100 talented artists each expressing their own vibrations of life through music. I was blessed enough to be able to attend Sonic Bloom last year. It was my first time ever in Colorado and I fell in love with the area and the amazing people that attended the festival. I traveled for over 22 hours by car last year and never regretted a second. Ladies and gentlemen, this is a festival that is worth the trip and definitely should not be missed.

Bradley Garner: Invercargill, New Zealand

“My name is Bradley Garner, I’m an 18 year old singer-songwriter in New Zealand.”  This young man has a clear vision for who he is, and where he is going in the music industry.  Not afraid of the camera, you can find many personable videos on his YouTube Channel. “My music is fueled by life events, love, romance, broken hearts…  My music is real, there is a story behind every song and I try to get a message across in every performance. A positive message of making the most of life and living a good one.”
He is influenced by  Jack Johnson, Bruce Springsteen, Jason Mraz, John Mayer, & One Republic.”There are a whole heap of influential musicians and bands that I’ve been ‘moulded’ by, however, more recently I’ve branched away from these and am focusing on creating my own unique musical style.” – B. Garner

Moris Code

May 10, 2012 By FreioMusic Leave a Comment

Drew Wood (aka Moris Code): from Billings, Montana, USA

Drew started playing music at age 8, and now plays the piano, keyboard, sings, and mixes using a laptop.  His style represents the fuzion of several genres such as breakbeat, electronic, ambient, and dub.   With an understanding for other’s style, Drew stated, in an interview that his music represents a “personalized musical experience. To each their own, part of the reason why I try to avoid a certain genre. Quite a few different styles are incorporated, [in my music]”.  Clearly an inspired 23 year old, who’s career is on the rise and full of potential.

Moris Code’s Style has a binary feel with an electronic base. Moris Code is always cooking up new tracks. In fact, Moris Code just released a banger, called Nocturnal Soundwaves. This song (which you should listen to below,) has a nice spacious intro with an array of syths and sounds.  Drew, the mastermind behind Moris Code, is mastering his craft with a touch of sensitivity a dabble of classical, and a heavy dose of electronic.  The name ‘Moris Code’ suggests a binary nature with focus on development and spacing over time.  Worth the time: Stop, listen and appreciate.

Tall Tale Excursion

April 27, 2012 By FreioMusic 1 Comment

Tall Tale Excursion: USA-Eugene, Oregon

“We like to call our style of music Oregon Greengrass!”

This joyful quartet includes band members: Aslan Sheffler (age 21), Gage Hawke (age 23), Andy Gullickson (age 24), Meg Keefe (age 20).   A young and dedicated band, who has been playing music from an young age. They have much more in store for them in the years to come.  There music and style is evolving with each song expanding their musical terrain.  It was great to meet these nice fellows on campus as they serenaded the passersby.  There is nothing quite like meeting street musicians who’s sound blows you off course and you must stop to enjoy!

[box_dark]-From left to right Aslan Sheffler, Andy Gullickson, Gage Hawke (this picture is missing a a key ingredient, Meg, the talented fiddle player, who has been playing since age 5!)[/box_dark]

“We are Tall Tale Excursion, we play folk/bluegrass/blues. We are currently a 4 piece band (banjo, guitar, fiddle/stand up bass, and mandolin) based out of Eugene! We recently picked up a fiddle and mandolin phenoms, videos with them are coming soon!”  It is clear that this band is on the rise as they are entertaining new audiences and while expanding and refining their sound.  Stay tuned, as there is much more to come from this quartet.

With a wide array of instruments these musicians pick & play it all.  They play: Guitar, Vocals, Bass, Drums, Keyboard, Banjo, Fiddle, Mandolin, Dobro, Harmonica, Washboard, Trumpet, and Kazoo. Their influences include: Blackberry Bushes Stringband, Greensky Bluegrass ,Old Crow Medicine Show, Buckey Walters, Devil Makes Three, Metallica, the Doors, Queen, Rush, Led Zeplin, Jimi Hendrix, Earl Scruggs, Paul Gilbert, Marty Freedman

Beatz and Peaces

April 21, 2012 By FreioMusic 1 Comment

BEATZ & PEACES: Bowling Green, Kentucky

Scotty Tichenor & Aaron Green are the minds behind the sound.

Influenced by: Pretty Lights, Lotus, and Zoogma.

In their own words: “Beatz & Peaces is a fusion between dub, dance, electronic jams and break beats. Influenced by many different bands and styles we bring a very technical, new and unique sound to the table. Breaking the barriers were music has to have specific genres..”

Bits and Nibbles of samples, synths, and lyrics. With a busy array of electronic and sound, Beatz & Peaces twists audio at will to create a unique playful sound. Despite the electronic feel they are musicians, playing the Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keyboard, as well as Vocals. They also prove that a laptop is an instrument that can be mastered.

Two Song Descriptions/ Reactions: (leave your reactions and comment below!)

Northern Lights, has an acoustic guitar intro riff that sets the tone for the rest of the song. It is a great tallent to be able to combine acoustic instrumentation to the digital spectrum of sound.

Lost in Translation: With an eerie sounds, synths, loops, bells, bass, vocals is a airy blend of vibration. To me it is a cloudy idea presented with clarity. LFOs wobble the speaker’s face (and surly your own), while “_*^&^%_, _*^&^%__, Bang” brings you back to reality.  With sounds that resemble 90’s Nintendo 64 game sounds (james-bond or perfect dark), it has a unique feel, flow and development.
